Multisport is a really demanding day job and to be quite honest, it’s a really selfish sport. But once in a while you get the chance to give back to all the supporters and followers you have built up over the years.
This was my chance, when I was asked to do a talk at Applewoods Primary school, set against the backdrop of the infamous Grabouw Xterra venue and nesstled away in the apple producing valley of Elgin.
It was quite a daunting task, as I thought how I would keep 60 kids entertained for 2 hours without it amounting to absolute chaos. I decided to release some energy by doing a small duathlon with the kids around the school grounds. They were oh so happy to show me around the grounds and were quick to inform me of my faults on the bike.
After the duathlon I spoke to the kids about life and informed them that life wasn’t only about sport. Although it is the gateway to opening doors for you, you are in control of your own destiny. Dream big and make your dreams come true!
Thanks to Gu Energy SA for all the chomps, the kids were bouncing around like duracell bunnies.
NB for all the water bottles and Fluidlines Group for the lucky draw prizes (Orca swimming goggles, Orca caps, Orca run visors and Skully lights)
This would not have been possible without you.
